Get ready for the ultimate road-running adventure! The Great Escarpment Ultra Run is back for its 4th Edition—bigger, bolder, and even more unforgettable!

We’re thrilled to announce that Sure & Steady Hikers (SSH) will be supporting and co-organizing the 2025 edition of this one-of-a-kind event. Known for pushing boundaries while building a strong and supportive community, SSH brings their energy, grit, and hiking spirit to what is arguably Uganda’s most scenic and toughest ultra-road race!

Registration opens on 1st May 2025 and will close July 27th  2025.

RACE DISTANCES

The circular route will be crossing through forests and a few small villages. Most importantly though is that you experience a tranquil atmosphere with very limited traffic on the road. 

  • 42 KM
  • 50 KM
  • 50 Miles

Rules and Information

  1. The race will take place on Saturday, 2nd August, 2025. 
  2. Starting time = 05:30 AM  
  3. Two Race numbers will be issued; one must be worn on the front and one on the back of your running gear
  4. No registration on the race day. 
  5. The time limit for the 50 Miles ultra is 11 hours, 8 hours for the 50km Ultra, and 6 hours for the 42km event 6. Cut-off times checks will be implemented at 25 miles for 50 Miles (5 hours 50 minutes) and 25km for 50km   (4 hours 20 minutes), and 21km for the 42km (3 Hours 15 minutes). Any athlete not reaching the point by the specified time (based on the official start time) will be required to retire from the race at that point and will not be permitted to continue. 
  6. Entry fees are not refundable if you are disqualified for being in breach of any race rule or unacceptable behavior. 
  7. No Medal will be issued to any disqualified participant 
  8. No medal will be awarded to any athlete completing their run after the cut-off times as indicated for each distance. 
  9. All entrants must be at least 21 years of age on the day of the race. 
  10. All participants must have paid in full, completed, and signed the registration form.
  11.  You must collect your race number by 7:00 pm on the day before the race. No numbers will be issued on the morning of the event. 
  12. You must collect your race number in person. 
  13. First Aid and medics will be at the starting point and along the route to attend to emergencies. 
  14.  Please let the organizer know if you have any medical conditions that might require medical assistance   (before the race starts). 
  15. There will be refreshment stations every 5km (water, Coke, Fresh fruit, etc.). Athletes are welcome to carry their own Hydration packs and some cash in case they miss any station for any reason.
  16.  All athletes (as well as their support team, if applicable) should carry a phone with the organisers’ number saved on it for any emergencies. 
  17. If you withdraw from the race at any point, you must let the race organisers or one of the route marshals at a checkpoint know that you have withdrawn. Once you withdraw, you may not rejoin the race.
  18.  Any items for collection at the refreshment stations must be clearly marked with the athlete’s name and handed in to the organisers at registration. 
  19. Any athlete found or reported to be seen entering a vehicle or not completing the entire official route on foot will be disqualified and not permitted to participate in future Activate Uganda Events. The name of such an athlete will also be given to the Ugandan Athletics Federation.
